Hi
I'm trying to interpret my father's Marine record. H B L I understand but can someone help with H B M or I B M group.
Also CM Lng group. (Landing group ?)
From April 44 the company is recorded as V.O. - can find no reference to this.
I have a photo taken in France 1945 as a despatch rider.
Hope someone can share some light.
Many Thanks

Hi. I have done a quick research of your list in the photo.
Depot RM is now the commando training centre at Lympstone was the Infantry training centre.
Home base ledger RM Division was the Royal Marines Divisions - Portsmouth, Plymouth, Chatham.
Deal was the RM Barracks in Deal Kent.
MNDBO - mobile naval base defence organisation, responsible for setting up and operating ports and other duties.
CM Lrg GP not sure I suspect a landing craft group.
HMS Copra was a pay office for combined operations and landing craft crews etc.
HMS Lizard was a landing craft base.
HBLO - home base ledger U.K.
NP1747 Naval Port Party I will upload a photo which will explain more. Possibly bomb and mine disposal.
Chatham was a division
Portsmouth was a division from where he was demobbed.
Upload any documents or photos they will help any researchers. Hope this helps.

Your very welcome, doesn?t look like he was commando trained, however a fascinating bit of RM history, is there a better picture of the dispatch riders.

Hi
My Dad didn't speak about the war, other than being a despatch rider.
It was only coming across his service record and some photos that raised my curiosity.
The only possible reference to Commando is the CM Lng Gp between April 43 and April 44.
To the best of my knowledge he was a RM.
RM Service records are at best vague. Is there a resources for exploring more detail.I
I try and reproduce some photos.
Thanks again

I am thinking that this is not CM but RM. So that would be 1 RM Group MNBDO or commonly referred to as MNBDO 1 and the other possibly HBL RM Training Group.
There are many references to MNBDO 1 and 2 on this forum and on the internet. Here is one from the Imperial War Museum

Many Thanks
RM instead of CM makes sense.
I've found references to RM on the web.
Have you come across company V.O. Before
Thanks again.
