Hi, After the passing of my father I?ve inherited his books on the commandos and I?m looking for any info on my grandad. In a picture on the gallery he appears in 43 commando mt section, I?m unsure as what mt is and I?m definitely unsure as to why he?s called Ollie, his name was Arthur. Any help would be fantastic.

Hi Luke

Please accept my condolences for your loss.

MT Section is Motor Transport. Each Commando had one. Ollie was most likely the nickname of your Grandfather for some reason. Many Commandos had them. Do you have a photo of your Grandfather you would like included in our gallery? You can upload it as an attachment to any reply you post here. Out of interest the Motor Transport Section of 43RM Commando formed a little club called The Bottle Club. You will see that Stan Gartside was Vice President.
