Hello, Looking through my dads service record I find it all a bit vague. PRORM seems to crop up a lot in the Name of Division or Ship. Cpl (C) is in the Rank until he made Sgt in '64.
Some of the longest times he was in one 'place' was:
42Cdo.3cdo Bde Rm Marine 2 Apr 53 to Dec 54
PRORM 19 July 55 to 27 Jun 57
PRORM 24 June 58 to 23 Aug 59
40 Cdo RM 29 May 60 to 8Nov 61
PRORM 9 Nov 61 to 30 June 64
PRORM 1 July 64 to 11 May 66
and
RMFUR Bristol 12 May to 13 Oct 69

If anyone can shed any light on what all this means I would be very grateful.

Also we have one photo of him when he was in the Marines. He signed up in Deal in Aug 51. It would be wonderful if anyone had a passing out parade photo that featured my dad.

Thank you for your help in advance.

PRORM is Pay and Records Office Royal Marines. It later became DRORM, Drafting and Records Office Royal Marines. Could RMFUR be RMFVR ? The Royal Marine Forces Volunteer Reserve later renamed Royal Marines Reserve. Why don?t you post his photo on here ?

Thank you for the info, Pete.
It seems me dad was more office based than we thought. What would he have done in the Reserves? My sister has the photo. I will try and get a copy.

I read somewhere else on this site that not all Royal Marines are commandos. Could he be a commando while doing all the pay?

Many thanks

You may want to dig a bit deeper regarding the periods shown as PRO RM, ie. to see if he was actually there or was this an ?admin? filler when precise details of his service during that period were not known. We know he was Commando trained as the record shows that from 1953. He would have worn the green beret.

Thanks again Pete,
I have had a look in the gallery and haven't spotted him so far. As soon as I get the photo I will post it. Would it be helpful if I post his record and scans I have from his Company Record Book to see if you can shed some light on things?
