Good afternoon

I am in the process of exploring my fathers service career. He was a very private man and never divulged much of his exploits. He served in 46 Marine Commandos during the war. There was talk of him being in Italy (Anzio) and supposedly in Singapore. We have no firm information. We would like any information available and would also like to find out what his service number was. I have contacted the records department via go.uk to obtain his service record but couldn't give them much information to aid their search.

Thanks very much for inviting me to the forum and also for any help you may be able to offer.

former sergeant RAF.

He?s not listed in the nominal roll. Have you searched the 46 album in the gallery.

There is a Facebook group for 46 families run by Jeff Hewitt. Check it out as Jeff and another 46 child are writing a second book on 46

Hi

Here is a picture of my dad in uniform. The other one is probably his demob from Naval Party 2437.

Good photos. The single photo is pre commando or pre beret issue so before 1943 I?m guessing. Which one is your dad in the group?

If in a naval party would be wearing a blue beret even if commando trained. Unless permission granted. The person on right looks like RM shoulder flashes but hard to read.

Keep posting. Will try to help out where possible.

Had a friend who was a commando for 26 years PTI in Lympstone. He said if you got a ships draft in 50s early 60s you had to wear a blue beret and RM flashes not RM commando flashes. The old gunnery establishments weren?t keen of breaking tradition when the commandos formed.
