It is with much sadness that Chris Walker advises us of the death on 28 August 2020 of his father in law former Colour Sergeant Frederick Snowden RM aged 85. Our condolences to all his Family and friends.

Chris adds the following:
C/Sgt Fred Snowden, RM 14905, passed out of RM depot on 1st September1955. He was posted to 42 Commando in December 1955 and then posted to HMS Newfoundland (cruiser) on 26th July 1956. He saw operational action in the Suez crisis - his duties were gun layer on the 6-inch and trainer on the 4 -inch guns. During this time the ship was in action against an Egyptian destroyer which fired upon them causing damage and casualties and was eventually sunk by the Newfoundland. Subsequent postings and service with 45, 41, HQ 3 Cdo Bde and 40 Commando included the Near and Far East and two tours of Northern Ireland. Fred completed his 22 years service and retired a CSGT in May 1977.

Rest in peace Fred.

God and the Soldier, all men adore, In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.
