WW2
I wish to post these two photographs on the website of 44 RM Commandos X troop.
My father William (Bill) Lavender PLY/X 3571 Is on the top row, 5th from the left. Unfortunately there is no date on the back just this information 44RM Commandos x Troop Ceylon, which is written in my father?s hand.
He was mentioned in dispatches, London Gazette, 6th February 1945, Ref.757. Following action at Kangaw village Tuesday 23rd January 1945.
Presented with Oak leaf, was discharged 30th July 1946, rank Sergeant.
Perhaps some other people will find these photographs interesting to their family and searches, maybe depicting a relation of theirs, or able to add other details or names of other Commandos in the photos.

Hi and thank you for the photos.
You may have noticed that we have an entry for your father in our awards archive here:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/WilliamLavender44RMCommando
I can add a photo there and to the gallery if you have a good one of your Father on his own, either in uniform or civvies.
Are you able to scan the second image you posted of the full troop at a high resolution and email a copy to me. That way identification will be made much clearer when I post it. My email is below next to my name. Just click on the button. Can you aslo include your name so I can add it as a credit to each photo.

I have now posted these in the 44RM Commando gallery. I can add your full name as a credit if you provide it. Thanks again.

I have only recently discovered this wonderful archive. My father was a member of 44 Commando and served in Burma, India and Hong Kong.
I would like to share some of his photos with others who may now have lost their fathers to time.

One of the photos above is already in our gallery. Where is your father positioned, and what was his full name, rank, and service number: http://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/Royal+Marine+Commando+Units/44+RM+Cdo_001/44RM+Cdo+collecection+Edward+adams.jpg.html
