It is with much sadness that David Justice advises us of the death early this morning 23 June 2020 of Chelsea Pensioner and London Branch member George Parsons who was 100 years old and a veteran of No.2 Commando 6 Troop. George was born in Small Heath, Birmingham, in 1919 but early on his family moved to London. In 1937 he joined the TA serving in the 9th Bn., Royal Fusiliers (2nd City of London Regiment). In 1940 he volunteered for Special Service joining No.5 Independent Company taking part in operations in Norway as part of Scissor Force. George was one of the founder members of No.2 Commando raised under the command of Lt. Col. Newman in February 1941. That year he also married Sylvia and they remained together over 76 years until her sad death in 2018. George served with No.2 Commando for the remainder of WW2. Post war George was ordained and from about 2003 had been the Commando Association's Padre.
Rest in peace George.
