Here is an extract of part of the No.2 Commando War Diary for 5 September 1944:
Monopoli - Arrival of draft from U.K. of 3 Officers and 53 O.R.'s
I have an unofficial handwritten list of those who served in No.2 Commando. It lists a Pte. D.P. Jarram (same service number) as being returned to his unit 3 November 1944. From the date you stated he joined 5 September 1944 this would be 2 months. Between October and November in excess of 20 men are listed as Returned to Unit for a number of reasons.
I would stress that this list is unofficial and the Service Record should be checked for full details.

Yes I have his service record to hand and I can confirm the dates you mention are correct.
I had a very interesting meeting with two of Derek's relations last night and can also confirm the photo attached is of Derek and another unknown comrade.
