I am researching my fathers war record from 1940-5 where he serve in Italy / Greece. I am looking for any information on his record particularly his troop number . He received his MM on 19 March 1944 in the wadis.
Thank you
Ewan

Hi Ewan

Whilst I do not know his Troop number we did have information relevant to your Father on our website and I have now updated it with fuller details from the recommendation for his Military Medal. That can be viewed here.

Are you able to confirm his dates of birth and death, and also do you have a photo of your Father that we could add to our entry above, and perhaps any of his commando comrades, to include in the Gallery ?

It is possible that the No.9 Commando War Diary at the National Archives may have an entry regarding the award. Sometimes they are listed with troop numbers, sometimes not. There might also be reports on the operation there. Below are some links relevant to general commando research:

For the benefit of all here is a link to a forum post with more information on the No.9 Commando operation of the 19th March 1944:

Additionally the private papers of Major Leslie Callf MC* are held at the IWM . They include a report on the operation.
Here is a link to the reference at the IWM. They are not yet available online: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1030024685
