Hi
I am tracing the war history of my grandad, George Hoole of Leigh, Lancs, who was a Royal Marine serving in Africa and Italy in Group Supply /Water Supply / Water Platoon as part of MNBDO 2 7th Battalion RM
George was Marine Officers Attendant (Batman) to Officer Desmond Joseph Kenny who held 2 temporary posts as a RM Captain and Lieutenant. It would seem that Kenny was not an enlisted Marine but was considered worthy of a M.O.A.; maybe he was a specialist with regard to water supply,
George returned to the UK in late 1943 and shortly after 7th Battalion / MNBDO 2 were disbanded and reformed as 48 Commando.
In March 1944 George was posted to HMS Lynx in Dover (What happened to Kenny I dont know). Lynx was not a ship but a naval base where he was again involved with water supply although there are other abbreviations such as CA that I cant find the meaning. The records seem to stop here and there is nothing relating to d-day or after until he was demobbed in 1945.
Any info regarding HMS Lynx / MNBDO2 / would be gratefully received
Regards
MP
