It is with much sadness that we are advised of the recent death of David Wilson Fletcher who served as a Private at the Holding Operational Commando, taking part in his training at Achnacarry in April 1945, and was later commissioned in 1946 serving with 2nd Bn. 7th Gurkha Rifles. Captain David Wilson Fletcher died peacefully, aged 93, in Derby at 5am on Sunday 25th August 2019. Our condolences to his daughter Kandy and all Family and friends.
David Wilson Fletcher was the author of "The Children of Kanchenjunga" which tells of his experiences in Tibet. David ran a tea plantation in Darjeeling in 1953 and wrote another book about his time there "Himalayan Tea Garden."
The family add that a Service of Commemoration of his Life is to be held at St Giles Church, Normanton Derby at 1.30pm on Wed 18th September to which all Commandos and Gurkhas are invited.
