Hello
I am trying to find any information on my grandmothers brother Francis Evans who was killed Dec 27th in Vaagso! Norway 1941 he was in Commando 3. I never managed to trace any information about what happened to him, his military number or any photos when my nan was alive and am trying again for my Dad. He would have been very young 18-20 when he died. Thank you so much.

His service number is on our own Roll of Honour and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission database and I have links to both below:

Thank you so much I will take a look. Have just been reading up about the Operation Archery. Just wish I could find out exactly what happened to him.

You can apply for a copy of his service record. If the nearest next of kin does then a full copy will be provided. There is a £30 fee. Otherwise a transcript with limited information. Here is how to do so and, despite what some pay websites might offer, this is the only way to get a full copy:

It may not give precise detail on his death but worth doing. Some of those who died from wounds from the Vaagso raid were buried at sea. This may well be the case with Private Evans as is remembered on the Brookwood Memorial.
