Please can anyone help,

The above named is shown as having died April 3.1945 and buried at MOASCAR War Cemetery,Egypt.

He is also shown as attached to 5 Cdo,5 Cdo at that time were stationed in the Far East.

Does anyone know how or why he was buried in Egypt.

Thanks in advance,

Graham

Hi Graham,
I'm grasping at straws here but the only thing I can think of is that WO Douglas Johnson was taken ill on the journey to or from India and was taken into Alexandra where he died in hospital...
Certainly reinforcements were still being sent out at the time - reinforcements from the UK arrived on 22 April.
Some of the wounded were sent back, depending on their injuries, as they would recover better in the UK!
Plus the Age Group demob parties were being sent back.
WO Johnson was 40 when he died so there is the possibility that he was sailing home to be demobbed and died from some pernicious disease...

Nick

Graham & Nick,
The casualty list states 'Died', suggesting his death was the result of an illness. Moascar was a military camp alongside the Suez Canal, supporting Nick's thoughts that he was in transit when he was taken ill.

It would be possible to obtain an overseas death certificate which would confirm the actual cause of C.S.M. Johnson's death?
