Hello I am trying to find information about my fathers service in the Royal Marines between Dec 1942 and Sept 1946
I have attached his service record and I would be grateful for any details about were he may have been posted particularly what he may have done
at COPRA between Sept 1943 to Nov 1944
I know he was at D day and then in Burma with 44 commando.
I would like any information regarding his time spent at HBL RMTG , I have seen from another service mans record that this entry was written by the same hand (line 5 )
Many Thanks
Colin Knight

HBL - Home base ledger. Essentially based at a UK based establishment.
RMTG - Royal Marines Training Group, sort of a pre conditioning course before commando training. There was a school in Towyn Wales, google the RM museum it may I think help.

Hi Colin
The photo you posted of 'A' Troop is already in our gallery but is titled 44RM Commando 'A' Troop, Ceylon October 1944. Is your Father in this photo ?

Hello , thanks to you both.
I believe my dad is 4th from the left center row. He has a tatto on his left forearm
I have checked with Google for information HMS Quebec and found out it was a training center for landing craft crews. This ties in with dad being at D day, he told me he had piloted
one. I have an american issue German phrase book and dad used to have combined service shoulder badges.
I an still trying to find out what he may have done at HMS Copra I have seen it was a shore based admin center and there were also other Copra depots in the south of England not just in Scotland.
Regards
Colin Knight

Hi Colin,
Just for your into, HMS COPRA certainly wasn't a ship and, as you've established, it was a shore base dealing with Combined Ops.
COPRA was an acronym for Combined Operations Pay Records & Accounts...
Here is a good write up on HMS COPRA...
