In the absence of a single comment being received about, or even one photo of, this years annual event at Elmwood School, Croydon, in memory of Lt. George Knowland VC, I can confirm that it did indeed take place. This I have discovered by searching the School website. I am assuming that it will be depicted in the next Association newsletter, however I am sure there are people out there who went who must have a few photos and could say just a few words which would not detract from any future article.

The School website states
George Knowland Award 2019
Congratulations to Oumou and Shyam- winners of the George Knowland Award 2019. The certificates were presented in person by Eric Buckmaster on behalf of the Commando Veterans Association. Also in attendance was The Worshipful the Mayor of Croydon Councillor Bernadette Khan, Rev. George Parsons and representatives from Featherstone Homes: a property company who have recently built Knowland Mews, a new development named in honour of George. Thank you to all those who attended- we hope to see you again next year!

It would indeed be very nice if people who did attend this ceremony would consider donating a few photo's and words to this site from the event.

Lt Knowland is always remembered by myself as he was my fathers troop leader in 4 Troop No 1 Commando.

Please consider donating photos everyone. All these events need to be recorded and remembered for future generations of children and grandchildren, in order for them to research their relations history and involvement in the Commandos.

Thanks Pete for your continued hard work and contribution to this site.

Regards

John M
