My father, Douglas Arthur Collings contracted pneumonia during training and was invalided out to the RAMC. I would love to find any information regarding his time training to become a commando. I will be in Scotland in May 2019 and plan to visit the area of the training base.
It is difficult to day for sure without knowing the dates and any specific location that your Father did his training prior to his getting pneumonia. Not all Commandos were trained at Achnacarry. However assuming he was, we have some detail on training on oour website that may be of interest when you visit. Here is a link to just one section of that information:
Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.

Thankyou. Im sure that the British Army Records has the records of his postings somewhere, but even with his service number Ive found it impossible to get these records so far..

I am not sure where you have sought this information in the past. You can apply for a copy of his Service Record. If the nearest next of kin applies a full photocopy of the record will be provided. Otherwise a transcript with limited detail. This section tells you how.
