I am looking for info. on my father Captain Harry Barnes who was CO of 814 Flotilla on Dday but later moved to 654 flotilla. I have found information on 814 but as yet nothing on 654. Can anyone help?

Are you certain that 654 was actually a flotilla ? Could it be the number of a landing craft or a motor launch or similar ?

I have found reference to this Flotilla. It was part of 'E' Squadron. The image I have attached comes from the book D Day Documents by Paul Winter View book here.

The flotillas in 'E' Squadron were 605, 606, 607, 654, and 698. So that at least gives you another avenue of research now to the Squadron and also to the other Flotillas mentioned.

Good luck.

Hi Pete,

Have you ever come across a reference to 485 Flotilla?

So far it has proved to be very elusive.

I have attached a photograph.

Regards

I can't find anything on MLC at all, only LCM (Landing craft mechanised). Is this the same ?

Hi Rick

I regret I have not been able to find anything on 485 Flotilla other than an entry for the death of a veteran by the name of C.T. Hitchcock in the Navy News Oct 2011 page 39 where LCM Flotilla 485 is one of the ones he served on.
