Hi Denise,
No problems, if you upload images that are either '.gif' or '.jpg' format then the picture will be displayed automatically. Your original upload was a bitmap (.bmp) file, which means that the web browser cannot display it. So I converted it to a .jpg so that users could see it without needing to download it.
With a bit of luck this will help jog someones memories.
Good luck.
Dan

hello Stephen, how are you? Do you know if Fan Ling was the main barracks in Hong Kong,my ignorance is shining through at the moment!!!!
If it was, there must have been hundreds of people there. Was it a bad place that people would rather not share their experiences??See you soon, from Denise.

I have found a reference that indicates that Fan Ling had a Japanese POW camp. http://www.hongkongwardiary.com/powresearch.html.
Maybe your granddad helped with the liberation of that camp, at the end of the war.
If you have a look around that website, there is lots of information about the Hong Kong garrison which had a lot of international troops, very interesting.
