Im visiting France on the 28th September, the anniversary of the raids.
My father..Frank Selman, was a Sgt on the Deepcut raid.
I wish to pay my respects to the two fallen commandos...I know they're at rest in a cemetery at Luc sur Mer..Please
does anyone know which one?
Many thanks

Hi Jason,

There were twin raids, code named Operation Chopper and Operation Deepcut, carried out by sixty five commandos of 5 Troop No.1 Commando, against the coast of Northern France.

One section, led by Lieutenant Scaramanga, landed at St Vaast Bay (Op Deepcut) and ambushed a German cycle patrol.
The other section, led by Captain Tom Hemmimg, landed at Luc sur Mer (Op Chopper) and suffered a number of casualties including two killed, Pte. Elwyn Edwards and L/Cpl Cyril Evans.

Both Pte Edwards and L/Cpl Evans are buried at the Luc-Sur-Mer Churchyard.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for that. Like so many, my dad never spoke of his service until near the end.
Through these pages, I found photographs of him after the raid.
I have his ?pay book? listing his courses..and his time training in Scotland.
I?ve yet to apply for his service records..or the medals he never claimed..he couldn?t reconcile
His actions with the reward..
Many thanks
Jason

Hi Jason

I have got photos of the graves of the two commandos who were killed on the Chopper raid that were taken when Idris Jones visited the cemetery in the 90s.
I will scan these photos next week and upload them on to this site, one of the commandos, Elwyn Edwards was best friends with Idris hence his visit.

Cheers Andy

You may also wish to browse the album in the gallery: Luc Sur Mer memorial.
