Hello I am looking into my grandfather who was a RM during WW2. On his service record I see locations such as NAS(Naval Air Station) Kestrel then there are brackets with (S.S.V Andover) or Deadalus (Seafire S.S.V No.1) would anyone know what these abbreviations in the brackets would mean? Thank you

Hi pswild,

Welcome to the CVA Website and Forums.

N.A.S stands for Naval Air Squadron(s).

S.S.V. is the abbreviation for Special Service Vessel - the Royal Navy had a number of "Special Service Vessels" which included decoy ships ("Q" ships) and dummy ships, and those which undertook special tasks such as landing agents.

Nick
