I am looking for the cause of death of the above named No 1 Commando who died on the 5th August 1945 and is buried at Kirkee War Cemetery, India. Please reply on this message with any information and the source/reference etc. His parents came from Brighton.

14404860 Pte. James Frederick BEECH Royal Sussex Regiment & 5 Commando

Wounded in action 31.1.1945 serving with 5 Commando WO 417/88
Died 5.8.1945 India, attached to H.Q. 3 S.S. Brigade (WO 417/96)

A member of the Royal Sussex Regiment, Private J.F. Beech, reported by the War Office to have died a prisoner of war in Japanese hands, died in Poona Hospital, India, a victim of infantile paralysis.

West Sussex County Tmes 17th May 1946

Thank you very much Guy.

The Casualty Lists have shown a Unit difference to that of the CWGC. One for his wounding shows No 5 Commando, the one for his death shows 3 SS Bde HQ, and the CWGC show No 1 Cdo. Of course the HQ 3 SS Bde may suggest he had a specialist skill. Does anyone have any access to the Nos 1 and 5 War Diaries to see if they have any mention of him ?
