For 72 years the record of the death of Gunner Bailey reflected his unit as Royal Artillery with no mention of any service in a Commando. His name was not on the Westminster Abbey Commando Roll of Honour, nor on our own Roll of Honour, and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission had no mention of Commando service.
Just as with others discovered earlier by researchers and followers of this great website archive of ours, information has now been provided to us about Gunner Bailey RA by Guy Hudson, which we in turn presented to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). This was accepted by them and they are in the process of adding his attachment to the Commandos to their record.
I am pleased to say that we have now been able to add the name of Gunner Arthur Charles Bailey to our Special Service Roll of Honour which includes the Holding Operational Commando. In the next few days his attachment to the Holding Operational Commando will also be added to his CWGC record.

Many thanks Guy and many thanks to all who contribute to our Commando Veterans Archive.
