Achnacarry Staff Photo

Greetings:

The photograph enclosed may be of some interest to those whose relatives were enrolled in late 1943 and early 1944 at Charlie Vaughan?s ?Finishing School for Young Gentlemen? at Achnacarry.

Lieut. J. Myers, one of the subalterns shown, joined us in No. 2 Commando just prior to the operation at the port of Sarande, Albania, September 1944.

Another officer shown is Capt. J.E. Dunning, the later-day author of books about Commandos. Jim Dunning was a Trp. Sgt. Major at Dieppe with No. 4 in August ?42, so he really was going up the ladder fast when this picture was made.

The 2 i/c of the staff, Capt. A.G. Komrower was in No. 3 Commando the year before ? 1943 ? at Termoli, Italy, and won his D.S.O. in that battle.

Squatting on the ground is the only other rank in the photo ? Acting Lance Corporal Spaniel.
