I have recently re-organised my archive and have come across this original poem on its original paper sent to me some time ago.

I have re-typed it for upload here for those who may not have seen it before.

Commando

Ive shared the friendship of these men
Upon great crags and in the glen
In snow and ice, on rocky bands,
And scaling cliffs from shadowed sands.

Lofoten, Dieppe and St Nazaire
Names that will stand for courage rare
Deeds that will shine un-dimmed by age
In Englands book an honoured page

Tis true that on the hills I find
That all men see each others mind
In depth not known upon the plains
Veneer is stripped and what remains?

I find born cragsmen with steady nerve
But more, I see I humbly serve
Brave hearts with noble virtues graced
By God who made their stalwart Race

Is anything known of A.W Bridges, was he a commando under training or was he staff.

Hi Graham
I received this in a parcel of other things.....and have only just found it again.
I am under the impression that A W Bridges was an instructor.
I will look into this further for you.

I'll post here if I can find anything out.
