On this day 73 years ago the Old Comrades Association of the Special Service Brigade was formed at the Commando Basic Training Centre, Achnacarry. Membership number 1 was given to the CBTC Commandant, Lt Col Charles Vaughan. Later it would be renamed the Old Comrades Association of the Army Commandos, before finally being shortened to the Commando Association.
Read more about its history over the next 62 years here: The Commando Association.
In 2005 the Commando Association made their decision to stand down. They held a Stand Down Parade and Drum Head Service at Portsmouth on the 18th September 2005. Photos from that Service can be found here: Commando Association Stand Down photos
Some members who disagreed with that decision decided to form a new Association, and our Commando Veterans Association is the result.
