HI all
My Dad Stanley Worsley was in 45 RM Commandos E Troop part of 1st special service brigade.he was a POW on 7th June 1944 and according to his records escaped on 16th April 1945
I am in the middle of mounting his medals in a frame and was wondering what other insignia he may have worn so I can display it. What type of Capbadge. Brass, bronze?.
Any info would be greatly welcomed
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum
best regards a proud son

Hi Wurzle
I see that you posted this request for info ref your dad's insignia and cap badge well over two, and getting on for three, years ago. I'm surprised that no one has come up with an answer, so in the hope that you are still logging on to the site, here goes:
He would have worn a brass King's crown cap badge (bronze ones didn't arrive until the mid sixties) although some Bakelite ones were made and issued during WW2 for the sake of economy. Brass is your best bet for a display, though.
The insignia that he would have worn would have been the Cash's name tape type - small "45" strip above a larger " Royal Marines" strip and then a "Commando" strip underneath that.
He would also have worn the Combined Operations badge.
I'm not sure when unit lanyards were first worn. I've tried to find out but no information has come up.
I hope that this has been of some help.

Aww nice one thanks very much, thought no one was speaking to me.
Sorry to be cheeky but do you know what type of dog tags and what was on them that M67qd dad would have wore. I want to get a replica set to hang off the his framed display frame
Kindest regards
Steve

As the chaps say, but sometimes embroidered badges were worn instead of/as well as cash tapes. Also the 'dagger' patch replaced the combined ops patch at the end of 1944. See here for images:
