Remembrance Sunday at Fort William and Spean Bridge. The heavens opened just as the parade move off at Fort William and by the time they had stopped at the War Memorial, it was a deluge, with the wind strengthening. At the end of the morning service it seemed to calm down and there were hopes for the afternoon service being a little bit drier. The winds got stronger and the rain torrential, but those who marched up to the Commando Memorial did not flinch during the Service.

We remembered again this year.

Thanks for posting these Pete.

Although I wasn't at FW over the week-end I did think of all those old originals and friends who are no longer with us......I placed some crosses on our local War Memorial in their memory.

We will remember them.

I popped up to the Memorial before going home the following day and took the photos of the plaques and the monument that I have now posted in the gallery here: Memorial Garden Spean Bridge November 2015

Other images from previous years can be viewed here: Memorial Garden Spean Bridge

It was very quiet with only one or two people around, peaceful, no rain now but still windy! Whilst there I saw that several of the wreaths had been blown into the field and whilst collecting and putting them back in place, I was joined by a chap who did the same. On speaking to him I discovered he had served post war in the Commandos. It turns out he was based in the same area where I lived whilst in London. He also turned out to know a WO who had retired from 45 Commando and then joined my own relief at Ealing when I was posted there. Small world !
