Coire Gabhail (Lost Valley)

A few years ago l posted a picture of my father climbing with No1 Commando, on the reverse was written Glen Coe.

Having decided to visit the area this weekend and needing further information, on the off chance I forwarded the photo to the Mountain Rescue Centre at Glen Coe, asking if they could help, was I surprised with the reply below. If weather is bad tomorrow and will not be able to visit the bouldering rock's can be seen here=

Hi Kevin,
The picture is of your father bouldering in Coire Gabhail (Lost Valley). If you walk up into Coire Gabhail, you journey through a narrow wooded gorge, then come out of the trees and see a flat open "meadow". If you follow the path down onto the meadow, you'll see a couple of huge boulders on your right. The picture is of the bigger boulder, which is nearest the path.

Nick, heavy rain rain in Glen Coe today, 'Spirit is willing but flesh, it is weak.' in the rain, so gave it a miss. Carried on to Spean Bridge, weather cleared, was able to take photos of memorial and remembrance garden, will down load when I get home, It's well worth the time and effort, before I flat line.

They are both looking SW up the valley.

The winter shot shows the second boulder further to the right (NW)

I take your point made elsewhere about it being a long walk-in just to go climbing when there are plenty of good slabs available much closer to the roadside.

As well as climbing, the Lost Valley is a good place to practice bivvying and setting up OP's. Maybe that could have been a factor.

It's an amazing place, definitely worth the walk-in.
