The amount of information and the number of images included on this site makes it undoubtedly one of, if not the, greatest online source of information about the Commandos from their formation to the present day. All free at source, no watermarks, no thumbnail sized photos, no copying without permission from other sites, no fancy graphics, all entries checked as far as possible for historical accuracy, no assumptions made, continually updated, closely monitored, and what is now a major source of research for individuals and media alike when looking for information about Commandos. Families doing private research, tv and film producers seeking advice or permissions to use photos, authors, militaria collectors, interested parties, and yes even military bodies and associations checking detail. All now use the CVA website.

Over 100,000 site visitors a year and 1.2 million site requests from those visitors. The site is attracting a good deal of interest for such a specialised Web-site and it is very well received by the public.

A big thank you to all who contribute to our website to make it such a unique and useful resource for those interested in everything 'Commando'. I include all those who send in their photos or information, those who reply to messages on the Forum, the ladies who volunteered to transcribe documents for us, and of course those who visit the site.

Much work is done in the background by a very small group of volunteers to keep the site active, including members of our research group who put in many hours of work, all done for free and in their own time. Most of you will be familiar with our names due to the posts you see on here.

However there is one name that hardly ever is seen, yet without him there would be no website. That name is Dan Mewett, son of our website manager John, and grandson of Robert Mewitt of No 1 Commando. Dan is our IT man. Any technical problem with the site and it is Dan who we turn to. He has been there from the start. He and his father created the website itself, and whilst others such as Nick Collins and myself may add the content, Dan is our technical expert. And he does that with a busy working and family life. He is indeed a busy man having recently been one of the main contributors to the the new website for Transport for London.

So thank you Dan, and thank you to everyone who contributes in making this site as good as it is. Keep telling people to visit us. This is the official site of the Commando Veterans Association www.commandoveterans.org

At the bottom of this link to the TFL blog is a video where Dan is interviewed about his work. I have to say I don't really understand half of what is said, but it sounds high tec stuff !

Thanks for that Pete. Dan sure does deserve a lot of credit and thanks. I'm glad you didn't understand him in that video either :)

I would like to echo Pete's comments and reiterate that the Website & Forum would not exist without Dan - who still manages to get to the root of any problems that our Website may suffer as soon as he hears about them.
Pete, John M and I try to monitor the Website and Forum as far as is possible and alert Dan to any glitches we find and he is generally straight onto them - even if he's on holiday with his family!

Cheers Dan - keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.

Thanks Pete

The CVA web-site is a great source of pride to myself and Dan. It has come a long way since Dan and I sat together huddled around a computer screen creating and organizing the fledgling site.

The growth of the site has been amazing to witness and I certainly think the gallery is the largest collection of Commando related photos on the net at present.

We have many exciting ideas in the pipeline to make the site of continued interest and encourage its growth even further. But most of all it is here to get the message out and support the Commando Veterans Association. Without the association members and site users we would have nothing at all so thanks to them and everyone who contributes in anyway. Its been a great ride so far so once again thanks.

Best regards

John M
