Transcript from Commando Association newsletter 96 of March 1993.

The 50th Anniversary of Operation Fahrenheit, the raid carried out on the Pointe de Plouezec on the night of the 11/2th November 1942 was certainly held with some style. Held over Remembrance weekend (unfortunately), as usual, our French hosts looked after the small party of survivors of the raid and the General Secretary. On arrival at the Town Hall, Messrs Barry, Cotter, and Roberts. - all of 12 Commando, and Potts, the radio operator of the famous MTB 344, were whisked to a first floor exhibition of the Commandos and particularly, aspects of the raid. It seemed as if the entire local population had turned out to greet the visitors late on that Friday evening. Among the interesting visits made on the Saturday was one to the site of the Sherburn Line Escape Route (including the 'safe house' used prior to evacuating allied airmen and seamen back to Britain. Being.introduced to those French patriots involved in these escapes made the visit even more poignant. On Sunday came the official events with the unveiling of a plaque on the site of the signal station. a target for attack in the original raid, in the morning. In the attendance were many local dignitaries. With military bands playing. it was some ceremony, although never losing its. dignity. Guest of Honour was the Senior Military Attaché, who was most interested in the details of the raid from those there. Also present were four French Commando comrades. Capt. Andre Bagot, Leon Gautier, Jean Couturier and Robert Piauge. Sadly Major O. Rooney, and Lt Cdr. Bourne (of MTB 344) were unable to be with us. The events of the morning were followed bv a sumptuous banquet held in a restaurant by the beach in a nearby seaside resort. A very busy weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Particular thanks are due to Michel Guillou, who organised almost everything from beginning to end, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Plouezec, who provided everyone with such tremendous hospitality, and the wonderful French families who provided accommodation for us in their homes.
