I assist in my regiments archive. Whilst looking through a box of pictures today, I spotted this one. Realising it might be 20yrs before the picture see's the light of day again, I've obtained a copy for you guys.

It was taken of members of No 3 Commando at the River Aller in April 1945. The source of the picture was the wife of Maj KC Jones (Kenneth Ceredig). I've not dug into his history yet, but i'm assuming he was commissioned RWF. The regiment had a large number of men serving with Commando units.

Enjoy

Thank you for the photo. With reference to Maj KC Jones (Kenneth Ceredig), I note the following in London Gazettes to which there are several entries often just showing his middle name. He obviously rose from the ranks during his war service.

In the first entry below I have left one of the other names in as we have recently been provided with a photo of this man who was killed in action a year later with No 3 Commando. Click on his name for our gallery entry Second Lieutenant John Middleton Hutchings

Thanks Pete, i'm assuming KC is the officer crouching to the left of the Swastika and these guys are his troop. Neither of the officers appear on the RWF OR's enlistment roll

The Troop Sgt looks like he's wearing a "Glosters" cap badge, which might help pin his name down.

Hi
Pete, the info you have given stated, from cadet to 2 Lt ,K.C Jones previous ser no being 891476,this range on numbers I believe to be a batch issued to the Royal Artillery.

The CVA nominal roll for 3 Cdo has a TSM K Jones, his name I found in the CA Newsletter No 55,dated Sept 1972, the obituary stated only "TSM (later Major) Kenneth C. Jones, 3 Cdo of Aylesbury,Bucks"

3 Cdo war diary has 2lt K.C Jones being taken on strength as from 1 -11-44.from Field Return for Officers.

Regards
Graham

Post War, i've found Capt KC Jones serving with 1RWF in the West Indies in the early 1950's. By the mid 50's the same man is OC A Coy 1RWF serving in Germany. I know a veteran who served in the West Indies at the same time, lets see if I can get a positive ID from the picture.
