Hi Ian
Thank you for your post, I am rushing out now but will have a proper look when I return and try to post Dad's Service Record as well, which i have been meaning to do for some time, but it is not as full as your Grandfather's.
Thank you again and good luck with your research also.
Best wishes
Sarah

With regard to his Service Record and the list of Commanding Officers, I have found a reference to a Lt. Col. F. W. Phillips in 1951 however it does not add anything. You may wish to send them an email to see if they can tell you anymore about him such as which Service in the Armed Forces he served in. The website is for the Hamtun Lodge 7083. It shows that he was their head at the lodge official inauguration in 1951

Hi Pete
Just had a quick google search for this CO and have also found one for Lt F W Phillips in the South African Air Force. Could there be any connection given Dad's other contacts previously listed?
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/1282183/PHILLIPS,%20F%20W
http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1945/1945%20-%201637.html
Not knowing how these things worked, could Dad have been temporarily attached to the SAAF and would this CO then have signed his RM Record, or am I way off the mark with this?
Best wishes
Sarah

Thanks Mark
Now I know how to add links, I probably should have done that myself! And I didn't re-read all of the thread about Dad on here, so thank you for clearing up any confusion I may have inadvertently caused.
Best wishes
Sarah

Hi Sarah you could add a link on the ww2talk thread about your Dad back to this thread i.e http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoForum/posts/reply/45/3376.page
to help future readers follow your research.
Thanks for sharing your dad's records, always interesting to read.

Just looked at your relations service papers,, the last CO he had was JH Cowley Way - Ports division, same as my grandfather who demobbed in 1946 he was there from 6th April 1946 - 26th June 1946. I would imagine that after commando service or other units the respective serviceman went back to there parent division for demob.

Well spotted, promoted to be a Major in the Royal Marines in 1931. Is it the same person though ?
Lt. F. W. Phillips, Qr.-Mr. to be Maj. Qr.-Mr.
I wonder if you can find further promotions of this F.W Phillips up to he becomes a Lt. Col

Two of the other Commanding Officers named are also shown, as in Phillips, with Qr. Mr. which I assume is 'Quartermaster' after their Royal Marines rank in Gazettes. That only leaves one more to find - W. Sinclair.

Hi All
I have found a bit about the RFR which I have attached a link to, I cannot find a later edition than January 1914 so this might not be correct for the time frame I am looking for and I know this is going far away from any possible Commando link, but wondered if anyone knew what "Special Service" men might refer to in No. 11.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pbtyc/RFR/RFR.html
Any help/advice again would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes
Sarah

Hi All
I have just found some more photos of Dad and thought I would add them to his thread.
If anyone can throw any light on the photos, especially any information on the vehicles, this would be much appreciated.
Best wishes
Sarah
