During the course of my research into No.6 Cdo a name that continuously features is that of Sgt. Alexander "Alec" Norrie, of No.6 Troop No.6 Cdo.

He is held in such high regard by veterans of the Troop - including my Grandfather - that his service has warranted investigation on its own, although this has proven to be fairly difficult with little known about his life pre- and post-War.

During his service in North Africa and North-West Europe Sgt. Alec Norrie appears to have always looked after the needs of his men, and often had to stand-in as as Officer Commanding his section when the commissioned men were lost through injury or death.

What appeared to have disappointed the veterans that I have spoken to over the years is that he appears to have been overlooked for recognition of his service to his men, his Troop and the Cdo in general - perhaps because he had a slightly colourful past pre-war days.

However, my investigations have now revealed that with the support of his Commanding Officer, Lt-Col. Tony Lewis, and his previous CO and then Brigade Commander, Brig. Derek Mills-Roberts, on 7th June 1945 for the Military Medal which was finally cleared through official channels on 27th January 1946.

Whether Sgt. Alec Norrie ever personally received this award is unknown, but I consider that it should be acknowledged that he was a holder of this prestigious award.

I would welcome any information that anybody may have in regard to Sgt. Norrie in order to better represent him on the web site and in the unit history.
