Whilst normally such posts reflect more sombre topics such as a death, or an anniversary of a raid, I thought members may wish to be reminded of this article about a boxing tournament that took place on the 31st July 1941 whilst 2 Commando were billeted in Dumfries. The event took place in the Town hall at Lockerbie. The referee was Lt Colonel Charles Newman, OC No.2 Commando, who 8 months later would lead his men into action at St Nazaire on Operation Chariot :
Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.
God and the Soldier, all men adore, In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.
