This was on ebay (auction ended 5/4/2013). Does any one know the history of who made It and how many were made?

Hi Kevin
These Commemorative Medallions as I am sure you know were ordered by the Commando Association for the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Commandos. The celebrations took place between the 31st August and the 2nd September 1990.
Only 2,000 were ordered by the Commando Association and each was sold for the sum of £5. It was a limited edition.
These facts are evidenced in Commando Association Newsletters 91 of August 1990 and 92 of March 1991. In those newsletters it emphasises to members that there would be no repeat orders once the 2000 were sold.
At the Blackpool events which my two brothers and I attended, along with my father and uncle, their good friend and fellow No. 2 Commando 5 troop comrade, Bill Humble MM, presented each of us with one of those Medallions. I know we all felt very honoured to receive it, but also to be amongst such an esteemed gathering of Commandos. I'll see if I can discover who might have made them.
Pete

My sister and I have one each, and I saw another for sale as part of a medal lot mentioned on here http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoForum/posts/list/3753.page#13381
We will be keeping ours ;-)

The more I learn about the Commandos, the less I realise I know.

Gentlemen
There is currently one for sale on eBay, starting bid at £35 (reduced from an original starting bid of £40) + £4 postage.
Given that these were a limited edition, I suppose that the seller has seized upon the opportunity of a tidy profit.
Were another medal to be struck, say for the 75th Anniversary, I, for one would be very interested. The price of £5 per medal for CVA members would no longer apply, I assume!
Best wishes to all
