Any information in connection with Gunner George Barter who died in North Africa 17 March 1943. Mc Leod, Ellerman, Edwards, Shaw, Wilson, Patterson, Jones and Taylor are soldiers in photographs alongside him.

Hi Barter,
Welcome to the CVA forum. I don't know the extent of your information but here is a link to the Commonwealth War Graves Commision's records of George Barter:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2541392
Are you also aware that you can apply to receive Gunner Barton's Service Records?
See Link below:
http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html
It is always worthwhile posting photos on the CVA Forum and the CVA Gallery as it may serve to jog someone's memory...
Good luck in your research.

Hi
My father was also a member of No1 Commando (Hugh Maines), as a result of resesarch that I am carrying out concerning his time with No1, I have been contacted by the daughter of another member of No1 (Edward Fitzgerald). This lady has kindly loaned me some very interesting documents, one of them is a programme comemorating No1's return/reunion at Winchester in 1995 (Winchester was No1's last home base before going overseas to Burma). This doc lists all the names of those killed in action and the theatre of ops in which they fell, it also lists the decorations recieved and the names of the recipients and finally it also states the names of former comrades who are known to have died since 1946. Although my fathers name ids not mentioned I have made a copy for my self to include with the general info that I have gathered to date. If you would like a copy for yourself let me know and I would be more than happy to arrange this.
Cheers Andy

Hi,
I am new to this website and am researching my Grandad's tour of Burma/India during the years of 1943,44 and 45.
His name was John Strainer or Jack or Strainer. He fought on Hill 170 and landed at Myebon. I have many photographs of him over in Burma and he has told me many stories of his time there.
I am researching this information in order to write a short book and would be very grateful for any information you could offer.
I have attached a picture containing my grandad (top left) Bill Brown, Nobby Clark and one unknown
Thanks
Dan Strain

Dear Barton
You mention a Shaw on a No 1 photo in North Africa. The name, date & unit fits my father and maybe my Uncle. Please can you email me a copy?

Hi all
Does anyone have any information on my uncle, Jim Hirst, who served in 1 Commando from inception through to the end of the Tunisian campaign in 1943? He's still with us, by the way!
Thanks
Tony Birth
