Chris, a new member to the Forum sent this to me by email. I will post it here for him as there will be more opportunity for answers for him.
Dear Mr. Bishop,
I?m new to the forum but I wondered if you would be able to help me. My father in law was in 4 Commando, formerly the Queens prior to volunteering (he came from Camden Town, London). He was badly wounded on D-Day, spent well over a year in hospital before being discharged. He died in 1992.
My wife and I would like to find out about his wartime service and wondered if you would be able to help (his name on documents / lists etc). I recently bought the book The Fighting Fourth and he is pictured on page 98, second row, second on the left (the big bloke with rifle against shoulder). I?d like to pass he name on to James Dunning so that if there are any subsequent editions, his name can be added to the text. Are you in touch with him?
His name was Pte. Conrad Frederick Pooley, known as Fred Pooley
Yours sincerely,
Chris Sanford-Pooley
