hi

i have been trawling the internet for many weeks looking for more information as to where my grandad has served. i know that he served in Africa, Italy, France and germany and that he was lucky enough to live right through the war having joined up at seventeen in i think '38. i dont know what troop he was in so i am having trouble identifying exactly where abouts in the actions fought by 47 RM commandos he was situated. if any body on here could help i would be very appreciative.

Kind Regards

Richard Hill

Hi rich,
Welcome to the CVA forum.

Are you aware that you could apply to get your grandfather's Service Record?
They may help you discover all sorts of information about his service - date of recruitment, training, postings, theatres of operation, promotions etc.

The links below will start you off on the right track:

http://www.veterans-uk.info/index.html

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html

http://www.veterans-uk.info/medals/medals.html

Some people seem to have had more luck than others with regard to relatives' Service Records - some only receive scant information whilst others (I was one of those lucky ones) receive pages and pages.

Good luck in your research and keep us posted...

Hi Richard,

I have found a note of a Marine J.S. Moss having served in 47RM Commando. His service number is shown as CH/ /104039. Have you found out anymore or do you have a photo of your grandfather from his RM Commando days.
