Bill Day, who has died aged 95, was one of the last survivors of 30 Assault Unit, which helped to inspire Ian Fleming?s novels about James Bond.

Two more write-ups in tribute to Bill. The final link shows a better picture of Bill during his RM days, but so far I've failed to spot him in the 30 AU gallery, if he is there.

The final link contains

He landed with 40 Royal Marine Commando, which neutralised a battery of big guns on high ground and successfully withdrew.

Which I understand to be incorrect, 40 being 'A' Commando at the time of Dieppe and tasked with entering the port of Dieppe not attacking a battery. 'A' Commando suffered heavy casualties.

On a personal note, my granddad was according to his record in 40 Commando after Dieppe, so who knows, perhaps they met.

Please have a scan though 30 AU gallery and see if you can spot Bill.
