I am looking for any information on Albert Stretton who was the batman to Mad Jack Churchill during WW2 serving in the Grenadier Guards then 2 and 3 Commandos.
He originally came from Chasetown Staffs and enlisted into the Grenadier Guards 1930 serving until 1933 and was recalled 1939 joining the Commandos (2 troop 8 Commando) but quickly transferring to 3 Commando then 2 Commando as Churchills batman. He was wounded at Salerno and served in the Commandos until the end of the war.
If anyone has any further info or pics they would be kind enough to share then that would be marvellous.
You did not leave your name nor say what your connection with Albert Stretton is which is always nice to know. I have a note of a Guardsman A. Stretton in No.2 Commando. Did the man you are looking for have a connection with the Post Office In Walsall pre war?
Regards
Pete
