Course Intakes AT Achnacarry

In the photo gallery is an entry that shows the unit training programme at Achnacarry 1942-44.
Can any one explain why the Home Guard were trained by the commando.
They had three training sessions as follows:

1) From March 43 to May 43 -- 2 Officers and 230 OR were trained
2) From 28-5-1943 to 5-6-1943 (9 days) 2 Officers and 18 OR were trained
3) From 12-6-1943 to 4-7-1943 (22 days) 5 Officers and 58 OR were trained.

Over the past 4 to 6 weeks I have contacted several Home Guard site and asked the same question,to date no answers.
Originally I thought they may of been the troops,that in the event of the invasion would work underground behind enemy lines,but surely the threat was over by 1943.
So any ideas.

In one of Jimmy Dunning's books about his time on the staff at Achnacarry, he makes many references to the the Home Guard as far as training exercises. Once such reference is below :

"Attacking a target guarded by either the Regular Army or the Home Guard was always regarded as potential fun. But it also proved valuable training for both the defenders and us. Naturally rivalries built up and the defenders were always determined to put up a good show when they knew the Commandos were coming. Limited to blank ammunition and thunder flashes to simulate gunfire, grenades and explosives, these exercises were however carried out with surprising realism and excitement. Scuffles and 'free fights' invariably took place when the action was at close quarters. Bruises and bumps were soon forgotten by the combatants, especially if there was a get together in a canteen or mess where the pros and cons of the exercise could be discussed over a pint - or two- of beer"

Jimmy makes no less than 9 references to training exercises where the Home Guard would be used as the Defence force, and counters the image portrayed by the Dad's Army series. It would make sense therefore for some form of instruction at Achnacarry be given to the local Home Guard in return for their assistance on Commando exercises.
