Browsing the excellent galleries today, and spotted this nice shot of Guido Zembsch Schreve, No.10IA Commando 2 'Dutch' troop climbing a drain pipe.

I guessed this would be Porthmadoc so google earthed it, hey presto!! Anybody want to recreate the shot??
Cheers

This end of Brittania Terrace is near to where the old foundry used to be. The Dutch Commando HQ (Festiniog Railway Station) was fifty yards or so to the left and rear, where the lamp post is seen mid left.

I think that this image is the northen end of Brittania Terr. where the "Cob Caffe" record shop is now located, as the troops seem to be wheeling right towards the station.
(If you can add image with quote it might help)

Yep you're exactly right, can't really get the angle with google earth, but it's clearly the right location.

If you take the google man a few yards this side to where the lady is standing and look directly left I'm sure you'll be looking directly at the Ffestiniog station.

I'm also convinced this is the location of the Nederlandsche Club, seen here:

I believe it was at Brecon House on Bank Place.
cheers

Great detective work Paul.
Yes I think you're right about this being the Nederlandsche Club - you can see where the door has been converted to a window (the stone infill below the window).

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the photo. I think you are right in saying that this was the Nederlandsche Club. As Nick rightly says you can see were the door has been converted into a window. Besides that, the stones on the right of the window are the same shape and laying pattern as the stones to the right of the door on the old photo. I wonder were the stone with the name of the club went.
