Good morning,

I just wanted to share a ME cap badge out of my collection. It appears locally made.

Cheers
JB

hello JB

Very nice photos.

I have never been confident on selecting the real from the repro on these ME badges. The few that I have seen all seem a bit suspect so I have never obtained one.

Are there any give away signs to look for?

Regards

John M

Hi John,

in general the lugs, file marks as I think they were hand finished, shape the one shown is a known original shape, see also the no 50 52 album in the gallery, there is a pic of an ME cdo vets badge.

Cheers
JB

I believe also that on some fakes the lugs are made from wire with 'ring shanks' (like on ring shank nails)

Real ones do seem to come up for sale quite often unlike the the much harder to find cloth shoulder title which I've still not been lucky enough to find

Good luck!
Paul

Paul,

Have you seen the ME commando shoulder title ever been worn? I went through CVA album and have not seen it there.

Does not mean it was not worn of course just interested.

I also do not have such a title.

What's your view regards authenticity on the below item that's up for auction? I don't think the photo helps much, may go and have a first hand look as there's a 3rd pattern FS I fancy in the same catalogue.

If anyone wants the details of this particular auction please PM me.

Regards Vic

Hi Vic,

This could be a good one. Better to see the lugs but from what I can see it looks promising.

Cheers

Hi Ted,

I don't have the measurements as it's just the photo that's available currently. If I do come into contact with the actual article I'll measure it then. Unfortunately the photos a bit blurry and there's nothing to scale it against.

I have two that are about 48mm and the one on the pic is 45mm.

I think I read on the B&C badge forum they should be 46mm, can't recall the source though

Here are some shots of the cap badge from my previous post.

I measured this with a set of digital vernier calipers and it's 39.5 mm, a bit shorter than what's been suggested?

Regards Vic

hi Vic,

From these pics and the size you mention I think it is a copy.
