Hi All

Uploaded is the front and reverse of the round CO patch.

This was given to me by Henry Brown OBE who also said it had been darkened (subdued) with ink pigment..........quite a common practice.

Hi John, Nice patch, they come in many variations. I had not yet heard of the habit of darkening. Does anyone know when exactly the commandos went from tombstone shape to roundells ?

Cheers
JB

Hi JB

I have heard but it may just be another rumour that he navy wore 'Tombstone' and the army wore 'Roundells' have you heard of this before?

I don't have an original TS.........do you?

A photo for comparison would be great if you have.

regards

Hi John,

I do have tombtones which I will post later. I have seen army commandos eg Dutch troop and Polish troop in no 10 I-A commando. I also have a pic of Dutch troop were you see simultaneously tombstone and roundel CO.

I think in the early days as from introduction of the combined ops patch in 1942(?) they were all tombstone shaped and mid war they went to roundels, just a guess, though.

Cheers
JB
