I would like to visit Le Hamel and Rots this year.
Could anyone tell me if any memorial events take place to commemorate the 46 (RM) Cmdo actions there?
Thanks.
Steve.

Hello Steve,
I don't know if anything specific is happening at Rots; but last year the local houses were decorated with Canadien flags which maybe how it is remembered.
As for Le Hamel, I think that it should be between Cairon and Rots but I haven't found it on google maps.
But this French site will outline places, dates and times when various ceremonies are taking place:

This French site shows you where the Commando and the Canadien memorials are located:

Don't forget Pegasus Bridge just north east of Caen is a favourite place to meet others and have a drink at the café Gondrée

Hope that this helps

Hello Steve
Every Year, There is ceremony in Rots, the 11th of june.
Last June, only veteran Harry SALE was there.
The town of Rots do a great job to remember the figthing there.
To find Le Hamel, who is a part of Rots, look for the "water Tower", and this is Le Hamel.
I live at 20 mn from ROTS.

Hello Stéph, thankyou for the location of Le Hamel, the monument is shown at N°2 on this leaflet
http://www.normandie44lamemoire.com/fichesvilles/rots.html#
The monument is about 800m West of Rots at the crossroads Chemin du Hamel, Chemin des Champs Barbey and Chemin des Marettes. You can see it on google streetview.
Here is a photo of Harry SALE taken at Rots in 2011

Hi Steph,
Thank you for your help. Is there a hotel or somewhere to stay in Rots or nearby? Also is it possible to visit some of the battlefied sites?
Many thanks,
Steve.
