Hi Sue,
Welcome to the CVA.
Your father was indeed in No3 Commando and, as you say, he was a boxer.
See this link to an album in the Gallery which shows a boxing tournament program between No3 & No4 Commandos.
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/nominal+rolls/box+prog+3v4/
Your father was listed as a Welterweight.

Hi Sue
In addition to what Nick has provided, can I point you in the direction of this link to our gallery where there is a photo similar to the cutting you describe. Can you check and see if it is the same and if so which man is your father:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/3/Lord+Louis+Mountbatten+inspects+men+of+No_3+Commando+shortly+before+they+depart+on+the+Vaagso+raid.jpg.html
Also, I am not sure if you are aware but there is a Maplebeck mentioned several times in Peter Young's book about No.3 Commando called Storm from the Sea
Regards
Pete

hello
thank you for your replies
The photo of mountbatten is very similar indeed to the newspaper clipping i have but probably further up the line.
It is my father who is mentioned in the storm of the seas.
Ive found a couple of pictures in the gallery of my father which is good.
including the boxing programme.
Still looking.
I would like to find out what newspaper that photo was published in.

Hi Sue,
It's great news that you have identified your father on some of the photos in the gallery, if you can pin point him for us we can annotate the captions accordingly.
Also Sue, if you have any other photos of Arthur or any newspaper clippings or documents etc which you would like to commemorate his time in the Commandos, we would be very pleased to upload them to the gallery for you.
Regards,
Nick
