Thank you Nick,
The only other snippet I have managed to find out about him was at an auction (DNW) of medals on 08/02/10. I can't guarantee it is the same person, but chances are...
""Medals for F. Middleton, Royal Armoured Corps: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 8th Army; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals, unnamed as issued. Medals to 'Middleton' with slip and card forwarding box from the Royal Armoured Corps Record Office, to ?Mr F. Middleton, 6 Barmouth Rd., Sheffield 7.""
Phil

On another note, it is our Open Weekend at the Drop Redoubt this weekend. I've written a new display board on the operation and one of our members has sorted out the graphics. I hope you like it.

Just a little announcement, I have been researching Abercrombie for about four years and in December hope to have a limited edition book published describing the raid in as much detail as I have been able to and describe the traces the men left in the Drop Redoubt fort in Dover. It will have many previously unpublished photos in it, including a couple of new photos of Lovat. Some of the information has been provided by Jimmy Dunning whom I had the honour of speaking to earlier this year.
The book run will only be 1,000 copies and most of the profits will be put towards our volunteer preservation society who look after the old fort. I will be in touch when it comes out. Hopefully not long - I'm 95% there. )

Hi Peter.
I have found the graffiti of your uncle in the Drop Redoubt Fort in Dover. Here it is for you along with his photo taken within a day or two of his graffiti.
I am afraid I do not have a great deal on him, other than he came from Great Yarmouth, was a volunteer from the Royal Armoured Corps and participated in the 'Boulogne' and Dieppe raids.
I regularly show our fort tour groups his graffiti. If you can ever make it to Dover I would be more than happy to show you in person.

Frank Leonard Middleton was in No. 4 Commando and took part in the Dieppe raid. He is named on this list in our archive below
http://www.commandoveterans.org/DieppeNomRoll
and in our Gallery below
http://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/4/4+Cdo+patrol+April+1942.jpg.html
Additionally post war he was a member of the original Commando Association. He is named on one of the lists of those they had lost contact with over the years ( Lost Legion 8) which was issued to members on members in March 1976. His last known address is shown as Gorleston, Great Yarmouth. You can view that list here Commando Association Lost Legion No.8.
To discover more about his service you should apply for a copy of his service record. If the nearest next of kin applies a full copy of the entire record will be provided. If anyone else applies only a transcript with limited detail will be provided. How to do so can be found in our Research section below:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/ResearchAdvice
Let us know how you get on and if you have another good photo of him, or more information about his post war life, please post it here.
