Hi Tom

There is no definitive list of those who served in the Commandos during WW2, something that the CVA is trying to address. The reason is because Army Commandos were volunteers primarily from Army Regiments or TA Units who were then simply attached to a particular Commando. There were some exceptions such as the Police Intakes. I am therefore interested to know what makes you " think he served with 3rd Commando" ** Do you have anything specific that might help such as documents, Commando Service Certificate, photos, badges or insignia, or even a green beret. Was he a member of the Commando Association ? Do you know his Army Service Number. We have a lot of pictures of No.3 Commando in our photo gallery including troop photos where many individuals are not yet identified so it is worth checking there. There are some avenues of research to explore but can you let us know what the family might already have as this can often save a lot of time.

** I would point out that the individual Commando Units, such as No.3 Commando, were grouped into Brigades in 1943. 3rd Special Service Brigade, later renamed 3rd Commando Brigade did not in fact include No.3 Commando. Just to add to the confusion !

Regards

Pete
