My uncle William was KIA during or just after Operation "Shingle" in Italy.
His DOD is 04/02/1944. He is in the CWG in Anzio.
I have just received a transcript of his marriage Dated 24th Sept 1941 at 'Helensburgh' Scotland that he was a batchelor aged 24 "a Private 5th Commando(Now engaged in War Service)"

Nick is trying to help me with this. Thanks

Ken

Here is the CWGC Record for W G Haynes

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2678122

No mention of No5 Cdo but we know these errors have happened before.

However we also know that No5 never went anywhere near Anzio so any help on this one would be appreciated.

Ken has already applied for his uncle's Service Records

Nick

There were 7 members of the KSLI, including your uncle, killed in action on the 4th Feb 1944, the day after German soldiers launched a major counter offensive against the Anzio beachhead. Any attachments he had in his previous military service should be reflected in his Army service Record. There are numerous reasons why he may have been attached at one stage and not later on.

Thank you Pete. Much appreciated information. I am sure I am going to have to wait quite a while before I can get any info from his service papers. Indeed we will never forget. Ken
