This is an interesting two part programme airing on Channel 5. First episode was shown tonight and second shall be shown at 20:00 next Wednesday.
Synopsis as follows -
Battle of Arnhem: Next Generation documents the efforts of a youth organisation to bring history to life and engage young people in a groundbreaking way ? namely by learning history through real-life simulations and first-hand experience.
The brainchild of a group of former paratroopers and youth workers, Teen Soldiers: Battle of Arnhem is a phenomenally ambitious and daring project. The plan is to take a group of typical teenagers and train them to recreate the famous September 1944 aerial parachute assault on Arnhem in the Netherlands. Intercut with exclusive interviews of veterans from that fateful mission and archive material from the assault itself, this groundbreaking two-part documentary is part history programme and part social experiment. Living and breathing in the recreated backdrop of World War II, an entire camp has been built to house the young men and
women taking part. All will be expected to live under identical conditions experienced by the 1st Airborne Division, nicknamed the ?Red Devils?, during the war.
The ten people selected to take part in this oncein- a-lifetime opportunity will be tested to their limits to see if they make the grade, enduring arduous army training, drilling and marching in preparation for their demanding mission. Will all of the teenagers be able to stand the strain?
Both episodes should be available to watch soon here -
